About

Anna Thorsen is a Swedish/Zambian stage & screen writer from Vancouver, BC. She recently completed her BFA in Creative Writing (University of British Columbia: 2025), plus holds a certificate in Documentary Film Production (Langara College: 2019) and diploma in Makeup Artistry (Blanche Macdonald Centre: 2004). Anna’s writing primarily explores non-romantic relationships – such as friendships, siblings, and parasocial interactions. She’s drawn to the drama and comedy that arise from these social dynamics.

Before theatre & film, Anna spent 15 years as a visual merchandiser in corporate retail (Aritzia, Lululemon, Indochino), clothing designer (By Post Street), blogger (The Social Life) and event coordinator/host (TFD Presents, Over The Top Tuesdays, Lipstick & Rouge, Mr Black SF). Now, Anna works as a Dispatcher for IATSE Local 118 during the day and writes at night. When not writing, she travels. When not travelling, she’s attending a musical – or travelling to attend a musical!

Anna was selected for the Playwrights Theatre Centre’s Block A 2025/26 Cohort, where she’ll be continuing to develop her musical The Velvet Rope.
